La Plata County and the city of Durango will host a free household hazardous waste collection event from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 19 at La Plata County Fairgrounds, 2500 Main Ave.
The event provides residents of the Durango, La Plata County and the wider region the opportunity to safely and responsibly dispose of hazardous and hard-to-dispose-of household products.
The types of items accepted include: home cleaning supplies, painting and garden supplies, automotive fluids, batteries, propane tanks and small electronics.
Ammunition and other explosives, biowaste, radioactive waste, large electronic items such as televisions, and refrigerators and other items containing Freon will not be accepted.
Local businesses may schedule an appointment Sept. 18 to dispose of commercial quantities of hazardous material. To make an appointment, visit doodle.com/poll/6n672x5ergv78vhm or call764-5796. Commercial waste will not be accepted Sept. 19.
