I am not going to begin this letter by writing all the ways in which I “understand” why things rise in price. But I am going to say that after reading several articles about how La Plata County is complaining about not having money for this and that, they very conveniently found a way to raise property taxes as a complete surprise attack on homeowners in this county.
I was told that they take an average of all the market values of the homes in a particular area. Well, here’s my suggestion: take an average of every county employee’s salary and have them take a pay cut to pay for everything they are complaining about, instead of dumping all of these huge property tax increases on people who are living on a fixed income and have lived here for over 40 years!
