Ignacio baseball thrashes Center 16-1 in five innings

Ignacio impressive in 16-1 rout

Ignacio High School’s Tucker Ward was a one-man wrecking crew for the Bobcats’ baseball team Friday against Center.

The senior finished the day 4-for-4 at the plate with two doubles, three runs scored and four runs batted in. Not only was Ward a thorn in the Vikings’ side when he stepped in the batter’s box, he mowed down their lineup on the mound as well. In four innings of work, Ward allowed only one hit and one run while striking out eight hitters, as Ignacio (2-2) smashed Center 16-1 in five innings.

Anthony Manzanares and Kruz Pardo also did damage for the Ignacio offense. Pardo went 3-for-4 with a triple, three RBIs and two runs scored, while Manzanares also finished 3-for-4 with two doubles, two RBIs and three runs scored.

Up and down the lineup, the Bobcats brutalized Center pitching. They got off to a hot start and chased the Vikings’ starter after posting 11 runs and nine hits in the first two innings. Center (1-5) was never able to get a beat on Ward’s pitching and only mustered up two hits.

Juanito Medina was 2-for-3 for Ignacio with two runs scored and three RBIs. Joe Herrera and Kai Roubideaux both scored twice for the Bobcats. Ignacio will look for the same result at 1 p.m. Tuesday as it hosts Dove Creek.
