The Ignacio High School volleyball team didn’t display its top form Saturday in Dolores for the 2A District Tournament as it finished third place with a 1-2 record with losses coming against Dolores and Ridgway.
Ignacio (15-7, 11-1 2A/1A San Juan Basin League) is ranked No. 8 by the Colorado High School Activities Association but didn’t play to its state ranking. The Bobcats opened the tournament with a loss to host team Dolores 3-1 with scores of 23-25, 25-20, 25-22 and 25-14.
In the second game, Ignacio beat Mancos in straight sets with scores of 25-22, 25-14 and 25-11.
Ignacio played Ridgway in the third game and, despite losing 3-1, it was a lot closer than the score indicated with scores of 27-25, 22-25, 25-22 and 25-16. Ridgway won the first set, but Ignacio dominated the second set and led from start to finish. In the third set, there were 11 ties.
Ridgway (19-1, 11-1 league) went on to win the tournament after going a perfect 3-0 on the day. The Dolores Bears (10-9, 6-6 league) surprised the home crowd by coming in second place. Dolores finished in third place in the 2A District 3 standings and fifth place in the 2A/1A San Juan Basin League.
All top three teams have qualified to compete in the regional tournament, which will be released Monday.
