IHS girls soccer plays its ‘best effort of the season’

It’s hard to measure the wins and losses by the score.

In this case, a 7-0 shutout at the feet of the Ridgway Demons, the Ignacio Bobcats consider their latest defeat in a winless season a success.

“I think overall, the score doesn’t say it, but I think it’s our best effort of the season,” first-year Ignacio High School girls soccer head coach Oscar Cosio said.

“The girls moved well; they communicated well. It was positive throughout the game. We had great passing combinations and a handful of shots on goal. We were doing great things attack-wise.”

Amya Bison, an IHS sophomore “played really well offensively and had a few scoring opportunities,” Cosio said.

Angel Paul, an IHS senior sweeper, “she just played solid.”

Roshae Weaver, an IHS junior, “played well defensively for us,” Cosio said.

“We had some great opportunities; we just couldn’t put the ball in the back of the net,” Cosio said. “The ball just didn’t bounce our way.”

Ignacio will play three road games in four days next week: at Pagosa Springs at 4 p.m. Tuesday, at Alamosa at 4 p.m. Thursday and at Ridgway at 4 p.m. Friday.
