IHS rolls into, over Ridgway

Boys defeat 4A Durango, girls take a loss

Good got better for Ignacio, for both its boys' and girls' basketball teams.

Behind senior forward Adison Jones' 20 points and 12 rebounds, the Bobcat gents gave Ridgway the proverbial business in their own house last Friday night, rolling 77-46. With freshman forward Hilda Garcia booking 11 points, the Bobcat girls got the better of their San Juan Basin League rival, 41-37 in the preceding contest.

Already with a 15-point lead gained in the opening eight minutes, the IHS boys dominated the Demons by a combined 32-12 in the second and third quarters to blow the game wide open.

Junior center/forward Nick Herrera finished with 13 points and 10 boards, and junior guard Wyatt Hayes went off for 12 points and 10 assists. Junior guard Anthony Manzanares scored seven points and senior guard Xavier Reynolds netted six, as did junior guard/forward Austin McCaw.

Back up to fifth in this week's CHSAANow.com Class 2A poll, the 'Cats (6-2, 2-0) continue play in the 2A/1A SJBL tonight versus Mancos (5-3, 1-0). The boys go on the road Saturday to take on Telluride.

In improving to 5-3 overall (2-0 SJBL) just a night after losing 47-33 to 4A Durango, sophomore Lady 'Cat Alejandra Lujan netted eight points and reeled in six rebounds.

Junior Gibran Silva contributed seven points and freshman Avionne Gomez five in helping IHS defeat Ridgway.

Against Durango, the Ignacio boys prevailed in a 50-33 pounding of the 4A team.

The Bobcat girls also welcome Mancos to SunUte Community Center tonight for a 6:30 p.m. start, and will then accompany the fellows up to Telluride Saturday for a 2 p.m. tip against the as-yet winless Lady Miners.
