Fundraisers and golf go hand-in-hand, and these days it can be a perfect match.
We start with a tradition up the valley at Dalton Ranch Golf Club: the Durango Foundation for Educational Excellence tournament Friday.
This event, better known as the Tom Hartney Memorial Tournament, helps raise funds for supplies and equipment that would not otherwise be in the Durango School District 9-R school budget.
Hartney was a staunch supporter of this event, and he would have been proud of its continued success.
Another fundraiser even further north of town at the Glacier Club is the third annual Golf with Grace event May 24. This tournament supports the Grace Preparatory Academy in Durango, with proceeds going to the scholarship fund along with operating needs of the Academy. There are several special contests during this event.
For more information, call Bob Marcus at 382-0222 or Larry Corman at 749-8438.
There are around 30 amateur spots still open for the 2013 Coca-Cola of Durango/Navajo Trail Open, which will be held at Hillcrest Golf Club on June 13-16. The professional field at the annual showcase nearly is full, and this should be another fun event for the Four Corners.
If you have not signed up, please call the Hillcrest pro Shop at 247-1499.
If you missed last week’s Hillcrest junior golf registration, you still have time to sign up for the first Junior Camp, which will run June 3-6, 10-11. The cost is $45 per junior, and there is an optional range ball package available.
Give the aforementioned phone number a call to sign up.
Dalton Ranch Golf Club will host the Spring Four Ball tournament Saturday and Sunday. Tee times begin at 9 a.m. both days, and the field is limited to the first 80 players signed up.
Call DRGC at 247-8774 to enter.
The First United Methodist church will host a tournament Sunday at Hillcrest Golf Club, with tee times running from 1 to 2:30 p.m.
The Four Corners Tournament calendar features Ladies Team Play on Thursday at Conquistador Golf Club in Cortez, the Robbie Ward tournament Sunday at Hidden Valley Golf Course in Aztec and a Ladies Day tournament May 23 at Riverview Golf Course in Kirtland.
There will be a Cleveland Demo Day on May 23 at Hillcrest and a TaylorMade Demo Day on May 25; there will be some additional fun for the latter event, which I will outline next week.
