A Juneteenth celebration is planned from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Buckley Park in Durango. The celebration is free and open to the public and will feature speakers, music and more.

Juneteenth is a federal holiday commemorating the emancipation of enslaved African Americans. This year, the holiday also falls on Father’s Day.

The city of Durango and La Plata County governments are open Monday, but county and district courts will be closed in the 6th Judicial District, which includes La Plata, Archuleta and San Juan counties.
