‘Just-in-case’ moment one bad break away

I hope you all learned from last weekend’s PGA Tour stop that you must take very good care of your clubs, especially during tournament play.

Case in point, professional Robert Streb broke his putter and had to resort to using his wedge on the greens to make those pesky putts.

Thanks to great close-up camera work, we all saw how he coaxed the ball to the hole. I wonder if he has practiced this technique under the category of “just in case.” That is why I kept my 2-iron from my old clubs and put it in my new set, just in case.

And, just in case you play the South Forty course in Cortez, congratulations goes out to Jim Young who recorded a hole-in-one on the par-3 sixth hole from 175 yards out June 29th.

This weekend will be busy for Hillcrest and Dalton Ranch:

Hillcrest Golf Club

The Animas Capital Management, LTD-Vineyard Asset Management, LLC “Ryder Cup Format” tournament will be contested July 11-12 at Hillcrest. There are four nine-hole formats for this event: alternate shot, best ball, scramble and team total. There is $500 in added prize purse and a $50 entry fee per person. You can pick your own partner as long as there is no greater than an eight-stroke differential in handicaps. Gross and net scoring in flights for this event.

Then, the most anticipated ladies regional tournament of the year takes place July 14 at Hillcrest with the Tarpley RV of Durango Women’s Chili Pepper Challenge. This event brings together the best lady golfers from all over the Four Corners. There is $1,500 in added prize purse and an entry fee of $70 per person. The tournament has a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m.

Let’s get a head start for the CJ’s Diner/Durango Joe’s Coffee Hillcrest Men’s Senior Open on July 18-19. The minimum age to enter is 50 years old, and there is $500 in added prize purse. Sign-up sheets are available at Hillcrest.
