La Plata County is going to waive all liquor license fees for the next year in an attempt to provide some financial relief to restaurants and bars.
On Dec. 7, Gov. Jared Polis signed a bill to provide relief to businesses impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. One component in the bill was to provide a one-time waiver of liquor license fees for qualified businesses.
On Tuesday, La Plata County commissioners unanimously adopted the resolution, which applies to businesses in compliance with local and state public health orders.
The waiver now applies automatically to all eligible, licensed businesses, said Jennifer Boyer, licensing coordinator for La Plata County. It lasts until Dec. 7.
Boyer said a rough, cumulative estimate of saved costs is about $7,000.
It is unclear if the city of Durango has adopted a similar measure. The city did not return a request for comment Tuesday morning.
