La Plata Youth Services to host Youth of Color block party

La Plata Youth Services will host the fourth annual Youth of Color block party from 3 to 6 p.m. Friday at 2490 Main Ave.

The event will feature Native Artists in Action leading spray paint, wood-burning, turntable/DJ, lyrics/audio recording and screen printing workshops.

The opening will be by Southern Ute Royalty, and there will be a performance by Ballet Folklorico. Classes and workshops will also be offered for herbal medicine making, indigenous-led sex education, knowing your rights and anti-bias education.

Food will be available from local indigenous food activist Karlos Baca. Dance performances and face painting will be provided by the Family Center. Authors of color will partner with Durango Public Library, and a variety of booths and vendors will be on hand.
