Learn about the Food Recovery Hub

Herald Staff Report

Want to know more about the Durango Regional Food Recovery Hub? Ska Brewing Co., 225 Girard St., will host an opportunity Thursday to meet the hub coordinator, Ian Chamberlain. The event will be free and takes place from 5:30 to 7 p.m. upstairs at the brewery.

In October 2017, the Hub received a $355,843 grant from the USDA through the Local Food Promotion Program of the Agricultural Marketing Service.

The Hub is a collaboration of local nonprofit organizations working to increase access to locally-produced agricultural products, develop new market opportunities for farm and ranch operations serving local markets, and increase regional food security. Through efficient harvesting and distribution of gleaned fruit and vegetables, the Hub aims to increase access to local food for low-income families and entrepreneurial businesses, while also reducing conflicts with bears.

“We are inviting the community to learn more about the project and provide feedback so that we can make the Hub as successful as possible and serve a variety of community needs while increasing access to local food in the region,” Chamberlain said.
