Let’s celebrate public lands caretakers

Human power, rooted in public lands, is a force. People in our region absolutely hold great value in our public lands. Access to healthy public lands is an inherent self-definition for many of us. The power of those lands, as a common denominator, flourishes into cultural kindness, healing and fun – they are a unifying force. This thrills me, as I’ve made a commitment to help ensure public lands will still exist 15 generations into the future.

When one of my sisters asked me to make a Valentine’s Day card for our public lands staff, I knew it was a brilliant idea. I’m sharing it with you! To print postcards, use this link: ellimorris.com/public-lands-valentines. The site lists federal public land agency addresses in the Four Corners plus lists of locations around the country.

Act fast! Valentine’s Day is almost here.

I hope you’ll join me in sharing happiness, silliness and gratitude for our public lands fighters, who probably didn’t sign up to be fighters. They signed up to be teachers, educators, wildlife protectors and critical thinkers. Let’s let them know how much we value them and that we hope they continue being their most true selves, at least often enough to balance being pulled into a fight to safeguard what they (and we) love.

If we put land, water, wildlife, air, soil – nature – as the definition of winner, we’ll all reap amazing benefits.
