Letter: 30X30 plan protects needed symbiosis in nature

I have been learning about symbiosis, or the relationship between two species and how they interact with each other.

Not everyone realizes we are in a constant state of symbiosis with the world around us. While these relationships are beneficial for us. they can be damaging to our surroundings and environment as a whole if we do not act fast collectively, symbiotically and thoughtfully.

We are facing a very large extinction event happening right now. We will continue to lose vital ecosystems and habitats, which will lead to less biodiversity, something we rely heavily on even if it isn’t right in front of us.

We need the subtleties in nature as much as we need clean drinking water.

Joe Biden’s executive order last Wednesday for the 30x30 campaign has shown me that when people organize and are passionate, we can be one step closer to preserving our land and waterways, which we have learned from so much, for future generations.

While preserving 30% of our lands and waterways by 2030 is radical, it is the drastic measure that can slow down climate change and keep us symbiotically entwined with nature. In order to keep this momentum, we all should call our elected officials in support of protecting more land and water, so Colorado can be a leader in conservation efforts.
