If there was such a thing as “fake” letters to the editor, Tom Wishon’s letter (Herald, Nov. 1) would certainly qualify. First off, the equal time rule was issued by the Federal Communications Commission in 1949 and only applied to broadcast communications. Rescinded in 1987 by the FCC chairman, the move was upheld by the Supreme Court.
When it comes to income taxes, the top 10 percent of earners pay 70 percent of income taxes and the bottom 50 percent pay less than three percent. Mr. Wishon is quick to drink the progressive Kool-Aid that only the rich will benefit from a tax cut. I would remind him that the tax cuts don’t affect capital gains or an additional 3.9 percent Obamacare tax. If these taxes were cut, I would agree that they would benefit upper income earners.
It’s obvious that Mr. Wishon gets his talking points from The Durango Herald, MSNBC, Huffington Post, The New York Times and The Washington Post.
