Letter: Purgatory needs stricter mask enforcement

Our recent visit to Purgatory Ski area was a sad statement of Purgatory Ski Resort choosing to let guests “self discipline” and not be out front, asking skiers to please comply with the State of Colorado ski area mask regulations.

We skied for three hours and found no signage or staff at the entry to lift lines that reminded folks to wear masks while in this area. Sadly a large number of guests did not have masks on or did not have them covering their noses properly.

These areas around lifts are potentially prime infection areas as people are closely packed together until they get on the lift.

We have skied at Wolf Creek and Copper and both of these ski areas were strictly enforcing mask rules. These ski resorts had employees at entrances to resorts, ticketing areas and public gathering areas, asking you to wear a mask. In addition, all lift lines had signage and employees at the entrances to lift lines reminding you to wear a masks.

Purgatory ownership please try to do a better job on staffing, signage and enforcement. It would be sad to see Purgatory closed due to publics inability to comply with Colorado state ski resort regulations.
