Letter: Raise minimum wage, especially for single parents

I get it, Black Lives Matter, and so many other non-whites get the short end of the stick in the USA and should stand up and peacefully demand to be treated with dignity, respect and to be paid more than $7.25 an hour.

What is equally disgraceful is what happens to many – yes, many – white women who have to work two or more $7.25-an-hour jobs and juggle their finances because their former, well-off husbands hired loophole-savvy divorce attorneys and accountants so they could get away with paying below-poverty-level child support or nothing at all.

Thankfully, most single moms of all colors won’t complain, are resourceful and make sure their kids are not suffering.

With sheer luck, as a single mom, my investments worked out okay.

I pray for the pay raise of $15-an-hour for a lot of men and women in the USA to finally not live in poverty on $7.25 an hour.

After a decade of this miserable wage, there should not be any more excuses from the lawmakers in D.C. to stall and stall on this important pay raise.
