I think it’s disingenuous to rally support for the controversial 32nd Street bridge project around safety concerns, because if you took pedestrian/auto incident reports for a number of other crossings around the city, this one would not rank nearly as high on that list.
Did I mention Camino del Rio?
Let’s face it – the real reason this controversial bridge is getting the hard sell is that the city recreation proponents want this abomination to connect the River Trail north to Oxbow Park. Period.
That may be a noble cause, but where it ranks with other financial priorities is questionable, given other pressing fiscal concerns.
Let’s do everyone a favor and be honest about the actual rationale.
Also, realize that elections have consequences, and the new council members may see different financial priorities at this point in time.
