I write to express my concern that the City Council comrades are overstepping their authority and disregarding for our freedoms and liberties by imposing a mandatory order that all citizens and visitors of Durango wear face masks while in public places.
Councilors stated their only goal is to reduce the spread of the virus. We have more than flattened the curve, we’ve stayed home, we wash our hands, we’ve maintained the social spacing, we’ve closed our businesses, we’ve totally destroyed our economy, and for what? For 72 confirmed cases and one non-COVID death (whatever the hell that means).
Now we are told to cover our faces with anything we can use or what? Go to jail? Public shaming in front of the railroad on Main Avenue?
How will they enforce this? Put us and our neighbors to the south in jail and let the prisoners in the jail out to make room for us dirty, stupid, immoral uneducated fools?
If the problem is visitors from New Mexico, then stop them at the state line and if Durango residents go to Farmington, quarantine them for 14 days before they can return. Should be pretty easy to accomplish as they have an army of snitches out there ready to righteously call the snitch hotline.
They are allowing San Juan Basin Public Health to make rules and instill fear into the population with no end in sight.
Fear and control. The ultimate political tool. What’s next? Does anyone care?
