Letters: Gov. Jared Polis has done a great COVID job

Responding to George Thompson’s letter (“

Polis acted decisively shutting down the state in March, successfully curbing the spread; and the virus was real back then just like it is now. As cases declined, Polis tried easing restrictions to open the economy. When the disease started to spread, restrictions went back in place so Colorado wouldn’t end up like Arizona or Texas with overflowing ICUs and refrigerated trucks for corpses.

Considering how the president floundered and failed with his pandemic response, and offered no support for states despite their cries for help, Polis has done a wonderful job balancing public health and the economy.

Dr. Fauci’s advice to not wear masks in March was an effort to save medical supplies for professionals who needed them. If they can’t keep themselves safe, they can’t help anyone else. As we saw with hand sanitizer and toilet paper, that lie was necessary. It is medical science that masks help.

Some people will only believe COVID-19 is real when they have a tube down their throats. Freedom is a blessing and a curse. When Thompson and other like-minded people experience that COVID-19 is worse than the flu, maybe the tube will show Polis is right.
