Letters: If they want a memorial, buy property

As a born-and-raised resident of Durango, a veteran and a conservative voter, I keep trying to keep Durango City Council from ruining our way of life. Bowing to BLM ( Burn, Loot and Murder) in any way will be disastrous. A memorial on city property against city code should not be allowed. If they want a memorial, let them buy the property and then do what they want with it. You can’t display religious symbols on city property. Why is BLM special?

And what is wrong with our policing the way it is now? Enforcing the law and protecting our citizens is their job. They do it very well. Having additional help also works well – drug and alcohol counselors, mental health professionals, etc. – but not at the expense of the police.

Most animosity toward the police is because you’ve done something wrong. Stay within the law and you learn to respect them. Council should forget its loyalty to its political party and do what is best for its constituents.
