Oxbow is not the only place this problem is occurring. Along Silverton Street and behind Bennett Street, trespassing to get to the river is pervasive. When I made a complaint about trespassers crossing my county property from the trail, Metz said the city can’t do anything about that because my land is outside the city’s jurisdiction. More mismanagement.
That attitude is reflected with others in city government. Mayor Dean Brookie said in a meeting not long ago something to the effect that trespassing is no big deal. It’s a big deal when your canoe gets stolen or a trespasser gets hurt on your property and sues you. He obviously has no respect for private property rights.
And city officials wonder why there is no trust in city government.
