I would like to draw attention to some of the unsung heroes of the coronavirus pandemic: custodians and cashiers.
As a teacher in 9-R, I see our custodians struggle with short staffing, late hours and few accolades; however, the custodians at my school consistently demonstrate a strong work ethic and upbeat attitude, which hasn’t waned even though they face the onerous task of deep cleaning over spring break.
Likewise, the cashiers at our local grocery stores have maintained a level of professionalism and positivity despite sometimes seeing the worst in customers.
I hope we all remember that, every day, these men and women are dutifully showing up to their jobs so that the rest of us can carry on without having to sacrifice safe buildings or full refrigerators.
Thank you to them and to all the essential workers who are keeping our community going during this difficult time.
