There have been many times when President Trump used harsh names to insult someone. One is “Pocahontas,” a racial slur he used to describe a female senator. Although he used this term to belittle her, I was the one offended.
I’m a Native American woman from the Navajo Nation, which survived genocide and cultural assimilation. We are a matriarchal society and I was raised by strong women. His attack was not only against me but also against them.
I request that anyone reading this will think twice before using the president’s racial slurs, especially those aimed at Native communities at the hands of a white president.
