Letters: We’re not taking prevention seriously

My daughter is a doctor at the VA in Chicago, one of the epicenters for the virus. What concerns me is that residents of Bayfield and Durango are going out like it’s a normal day.

Chicago has been hit hard and they are converting McCormick Place into a facility for emergency beds for 3,000 people. The only logical place in Durango would be the Rec Center – it has hot and cold water and sewer and a place for beds in the gymnasium. However, if we were to lose power, they do not have an emergency generator to provide electricity to the facility.

If you look at Highway 160, the traffic looks like any other day. Not taking this seriously is a mistake. The people of Durango and Bayfield are not taking this seriously enough to cover their face and stay home.

I just got out of the hospital in Arizona, I had to have emergency surgery. The main roads in Scottsdale are empty, it’s serious here.

Let’s make it serious in my home town. Be safe, cover your mouth, only go out to purchase groceries. Wipe down your groceries and wash your hands; it’s serious and not something to ignore.
