Local bars showing World Cup matches

Durango residents wanting to catch a little soccer action can watch it at a several local bars.

The World Cup soccer matches in Brazil started today. It’s a sports competition between teams from several countries that’s held every four years. It runs through July 13.

The matches can be seen at downtown bars, including Lost Dog Bar & Lounge, Irish Embassy Pub, Lady Falconburgh’s, Carver Brewing Co., and Steamworks Brewing Co.

Also showing the games is J.Bo’s Pizza & Rib Co. on Florida Road (County Road 240) and the Sporting News Grill and Bar in the Holiday Inn Hotel & Suites Durango Central on U.S. Highway 160 West.

For residents who decide to watch at home, the games are being broadcast on ESPN, ESPN2, and ABC stations. It’s also available online at Watch ESPN and Watch ABC.

The first match was between Brazil and Croatia. The U.S. team will play its first game at 4 p.m. Monday against Ghana. The game will be played in the city of Natal.
