DHS Class of 1965 planning reunion

The Durango High School Class of 1965 will have a reunion planning meeting at 5:30 p.m. Monday at the Elks Lodge, 901 East Second Ave.

Anyone interested in helping with the 50th class reunion is welcome. The reunion will be on Sept. 11 and 12.

Treasurer’s office to close for training

The La Plata County Treasurer’s Office will be closed to the public from 1 to 5 p.m. Tuesday to allow employees to complete a process-improvement workshop.

Office employees will be working to make the tax-payment process more efficient and cost effective. The office will resume its normal business hours Wednesday.

Inhabit series offers dance, meditation

Inhabit, 1970 East Third Ave., will host these programs as part of its Free Spring Sampler Series:

Live with Intention with Robert Fitts and Sacred Hula Dance with Ananda Foley will take place from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday in the River and Sun rooms (No. 110 and No. 111).

Embody Prayer Meditation with Sally Zabriskie will be held from noon to 1 p.m. Friday in the River Room (No. 111).

Water and tea will be provided. Bagged lunches are welcome.

Talk will explore Native education

The Center of Southwest Studies will host Yvonne Bilinski, director of the Fort Lewis College Native American Center, at 6 p.m. Monday in the center’s lyceum.

Bilinski will give a presentation called “Native Education at Fort Lewis: From the Early Days to Now.” This event is free and open to the public.

Bilinski will examine how Native students were educated during the boarding school days and juxtaposes it against the creation and development of FLC’s Native American Tuition Waiver, which is supported by the state of Colorado. People’s personal experiences that shaped Navajo education programs will be told.

Learn about orphans at High Noon Rotary

The Durango High Noon Rotary Club will meet from 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at the DoubleTree Hotel, 501 Camino del Rio.

The cost for lunch is $15. Crystal Durairaj will speak about Hope Orphanage in India.

Firefighters to share protection tips

The Four Corners Back Country Horsemen will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday at Bayfield Town Hall, 1199 Bayfield Parkway, Bayfield.

Guests are encouraged to attend. Members of a hot-shot firefighting team will discuss wildfires – causes, prevention and how to protect oneself and property this summer.
