Yogadurango offers FamilyTime Yoga

FamilyTime Yoga for caregivers and families with children ages 4 to 10 led by Joy Kilpatrick will take place from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Feb. 1 at Yogadurango, 1140-A, Main Ave.

This ongoing class is offered the first Sunday of the month. Participants will experience how the mindful practices of yoga can help people live moment by moment from the heart with more compassion, ease and gratitude for one another.

Pediatric Associates hosts free kids yoga

Free kids yoga for ages 3 to 7 will take place from 9 to 9:45 a.m. Feb. 4 at Pediatric Associates of Durango, 1199 Main Ave., Suite 205.

Joy Kilpatrick will lead the free ongoing class the first Wednesday of the month.

VFW to host town hall for veterans Feb. 4

All veterans are invited to attend a Town Hall from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Feb. 4 at the Veterans of Foreign Wars, 1550 Main Ave.

Veterans and their family members will be able to meet Andrew Welch, new director for the New Mexico VA Health Care System. The meeting also will give people attending an opportunity to discuss any VA health-care concerns with the director.

Ignacio library to offer family-reading circles

Family Reading Circles will take place from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Thursdays, beginning Feb. 5, at the Ignacio Community Library, 470 Goddard Ave.

The library and Southern Ute Montessori Head Start will present the reading circles. The program will use quality children’s literature to help parents read effectively with their kids, initiate discussions and increase family communication. Sign-up is required.

VITA will present to the AARP Durango

The AARP Durango Chapter No. 1243 will meet at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Durango/La Plata Senior Center, 2424 Main Ave.

Dick Reitz, coordinator of the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA), will give a presentation on the program and information on the 2015 sites for seniors and low-income clients. Members are asked to bring canned goods to be donated to the Durango Food Bank. To eat at the senior center, make lunch reservations by calling 382-6445 by 9:30 a.m. that morning.

Spellebration teams needed for Snowdown

Durango Education Center will host the Spellebration event from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Jan. 28 at the Henry Strater Theatre, 699 Main Ave.

The center is looking for teams of three people to compete in this adult spelling bee. This is an annual fundraiser for the Durango Education Center. Twelve teams of three vie for the title of “Ultimate Spelling Champions.” Teams are encouraged to wear Snowdown steampunk-themed costumes. The cost is $200 per team and is tax deductible.
