Greenmount trees to get a spray-down

The city of Durango Parks and Recreation Department will commence tree-spraying at Greenmount Cemetery all day Monday.

If inclement weather prevents spraying Monday, spraying will occur Tuesday. The contractor will use Carbaryl or Permethrin as a preventative measure to control cedar bark-beetle infestations.

Business Affairs to review FLC budget

The Business Affairs Committee of the Board of Trustees for Fort Lewis College will hold a teleconference meeting to review the budget parameters for 2015-2016 at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Room 2503, Berndt Hall, FLC.

LPEA annual meeting will reveal results

Results of director elections in all four districts of La Plata Electric Association will be announced at the electric cooperative’s annual meeting Saturday at Pagosa Springs High School, 800 South Eighth St., Pagosa Springs.

The meeting is free and open to all LPEA members.

Registration will begin at 9 a.m., with the business meeting commencing at 10:30 a.m.

Jerry Sutherlin, LPEA serviceman and lead singer of the country rock band Midnight Backhand, will entertain during the registration period, beginning at 9:30 a.m. A complimentary luncheon will follow the business meeting.

Updates from Jeff Berman, LPEA’s board delegate to the Colorado Rural Electric Association, Joe Wheeling, LPEA’s board delegate to Tri-State Generation and Transmission, and Bruce Keuning, past president of the Round Up Foundation board of directors, will also be presented.

The membership will have an opportunity to query the board on topics of concern during the question-and-answer period.

Help clean up Rosa Cemetery

The Carmelita’s of St. Peter-St. Rosa Catholic Church, 18851 Colorado Highway 151 in Arboles, are organizing a cleanup at the Rosa Cemetery from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday.

Anyone with family or friends buried at the cemetery are encouraged to attend. Lunch will be provided by the Arboles Carmelita’s.

Republican Women to meet May 19

Southwest Republican Women will host Anita Stapleton at a luncheon meeting at noon May 19 at the DoubleTree Hotel, 501 Camino del Rio.

The meeting will continue with an expanded session after lunch until 2:30 p.m. for people who are able to stay. Stapleton will speak against Common Core and will also present an evening session from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. the same day.

Lunch is $16 for members and $20 for nonmembers. Guests are welcome.

Learn how to make drunken thai noodles

Pine River Library, 395 Bayfield Center Drive in Bayfield, will offer a free class on making drunken thai noodles at 6 p.m. May 19.

Chef and cookbook author, Tess Challis, will share her Thai recipe at the cooking demonstration. Challis is known for her vegetarian and vegan recipes, as well as her experience with healthful, raw foods.

Dan Hinds will show you how to tan hides

A “Buckskin Tanning Workshop” with Dan Hinds will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 23.

Participants will learn traditional brain-tanning of deer and elk hides. The class will cover a basic, step-by-step method from start to finish.

Riverview students to discuss state title

Riverview Elementary School fifth-grade students recently won top honors at the Colorado Destination Imagination competition held in Denver and have qualified for nationals in Nashville, Tennessee.

Students will present their winning program via video presentation at the Rotary Club meeting 7 a.m. Wednesday at the Durango Community Recreation Center, 2700 Main Ave.

The public is welcome.
