Ignacio library announces events

Ignacio Community Library, 470 Goddard Ave., will offer these programs:

Monday Maker Skill Sessions will take place from 3 to 5 p.m. each Monday. Programs will include “Origami” on Monday; “Traditional Arrows” on Feb. 9; and “Operating Websites” on Feb. 23.

Saturday Maker Skill Sessions will take place from 10 a.m. to noon Saturdays. Programs will include “Rocket Science” on Feb. 7; “Origami Flowers” on Feb. 14; “Model Airplanes” on Feb. 21; and “Basic Boat Construction” on Feb. 28.

Fall prevention to be discussed

Physical therapist Stephanie Roberts will address the Rotary Club of Durango at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Strater Hotel, 699 Main Ave.

Roberts will speak about fall prevention and balance. Her presentation will include risk factors for falls, implications of falling, household and activity modification to avoid falls, tips to improve balance and the correlation of balance to overall health. Examples and demonstrations of exercises and activities will be provided. Visitors are welcome.

Great Decisions group seeks members

The Great Decisions group at Mancos Public Library will have its first meeting of 2015 at 3:30 p.m. Thursday in the Community Meeting Room at the library, 211 W. First St.

The group is seeking new members to join the group that will hold meetings usually from 3:30 to 5 p.m. the first Thursday of the month. Great Decisions is America’s largest discussion program on world affairs. The program model involves reading one chapter each month from the Great Decisions Booklet, watching a segment of the DVD at the meeting and participating in a group discussion about a designated global issue.

High Noon Rotary Club to meet Feb. 5

The Durango High Noon Rotary Club will meet from 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at the DoubleTree Hotel, 501 Camino del Rio.

The cost for lunch is $15. The club will hear committee reports at the meeting.

Independence center to host get-together

The Southwest Center for Independence, a local nonprofit that helps people with disabilities live well in the community, will host a “Chips & Salsa Hour” from 4 to 5 p.m. Feb. 6 at the office, 3473 Main Ave., No. 23.

Habitat seeking committee volunteers

Habitat for Humanity is seeking volunteers who appreciate the group’s mission and want to work on these committees: fundraising, ReStore advisory and construction.

The Fundraising Committee will meet Feb. 6. The ReStore Advisory Committee will meet Feb. 10, and the Construction Committee will meet Feb. 17. All meetings will be held at 10 a.m., at the ReStore conference room, 120 Girard St., in Bodo Industrial Park.
