Christmas tree recycling available

Christmas tree recycling will be available at Santa Rita Park from Dec. 26 to Jan. 31.

The city of Durango reminds residents that there is no curbside pick-up of Christmas trees. Residents may drop off their natural trees, free of ornaments and tinsel, at the drop-off site near the large playground area in Santa Rita Park. The trees will be recycled into mulch.

Snowshoe walk to take place

A naturalist from San Juan Mountains Association will lead an educational snowshoe walk to Chris Park from 10 a.m. to noon Dec. 27.

Participants will search for signs of life. The walk is for children ages 4 and older accompanied by an adult. Snowshoes will be provided to children.

Great Decisions group forming

The Great Decisions 2015 Foreign Policy Association Discussion Group will meet from 11:45 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. Tuesdays from Jan. 20 to April 28 in Program Room 2 of Durango Public Library, 1900 East Third Ave.

Topics will include: “Russia and the Near Abroad,” “Privacy in the Digital Age,” “Sectarianism in the Middle East,” “India Changes Course,” “U.S. Policy Toward Africa,” “Syria’s Refugee Crisis,” “Human Trafficking in the 21st Century” and “Brazil’s Metamorphosis.” Participants should bring a brown bag lunch.

Participants will need to purchase the Great Decisions 2015 briefing book for $22 by Dec. 31. Checks made out to LWVLPC may be mailed to Pat Chatfield, 50 Brookstone Court, Unit A, Durango, CO 81301.

Auditions for Kid’s Snowdown Follies

Auditions will be held for individual and group acts for Kid’s Snowdown Follies for ages 8-18 from 4 to 6 p.m. Jan. 7 and 8.

Kids should prepare an act no longer than 4 minutes which ties in to the Snowdown theme of Steampunk.

Performances will take place at 5 and 7:30 p.m. Jan. 28 and 29.

Ignacio library announces schedule

Ignacio Community Library, 470 Goddard Ave., announces its holiday schedule:

The library will be open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday.

The library will be closed Thursday.

The library will be open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Dec. 31.

The library will be closed Jan. 1.
