Santa Rita to hold Easter Egg Scramble

Durango Parks and Recreation will present the Easter Egg Scramble at 9:45 a.m. April 4 at Santa Rita Park.

This free community event will divide participants by age, from toddler to 8 years old. The egg hunters are encouraged to bring their own baskets. People should leave their pets at home.

Ignacio library announces programs

The Ignacio Community Library, 470 Goddard Ave., will offer these programs:

Tween activities will take place at 2:15 p.m. every Wednesday. Topics will include: Nature Art on April 8, Cooking Class on April 15, Silly Science on April 22, and the movie “Rio 2” on April 29.

Poetry Night will take place at 5:30 p.m. April 24. Participants can listen to poets, or share their own poetry during open mic. Refreshments will be served.

Colo. archaeologists bring big show to FLC

The Colorado Archaeological Society’s annual conference will be held Oct. 10-11 at Fort Lewis College.

Events and talks Oct. 10 will be in the FLC Ballroom. Doug Owsley of the Smithsonian Institution will serve as the dinner speaker on the topic of “Kennewick Man.” The San Juan Basin Archaeological Society, in partnership with Maria’s Bookshop, will have his book for sale, and he will autograph books that evening.

On Oct. 11, tentative plans include a one-day version of the Program for Avocational Archaeology Certification class on archaeological practices or a site form workshop. Other events for the day include at least one all-day field trip and a few half-day trips, as well as a speaker scheduled for that afternoon. More details will be provided as the program develops.
