Alamosa’s 7-3 win against Bayfield on Saturday in Alamosa looked more like a football result than a boys soccer game on the scoreboard.
The Mean Moose avenged a 4-1 loss to the Wolverines earlier in the year.
“We had 10 minutes of a mental lapse in the whole 80-minute game,” BHS head coach Dave Foster said. “We finished strong. It’s frustrating to see the score, once again, not reflect the way that we played.”
BHS freshman Grant Pierce scored in the 24th minute on a penalty kick.
Fellow Wolverines’ freshman Colton Fine found the back of the net in the 50th minute off of a corner-kick assist by Pierce, and junior Viktor Sandvik wrapped up Bayfield’s scoring with a 30-yard blast that found the top corner.
“We really controlled the tempo of the game. We pressed forward. We had a lot of positive possession,” Foster said. “Alamosa had some speed, and they played the ball over the top. They had one player who was really fast. Our boys couldn’t keep up with him.”
BHS (1-7, 1-5 Region 5) has scored in seven of its eight games this year and found the back of the net three times in defeat.
The Wolverines will play their next three games at home, starting with Montezuma-Cortez at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Wolverine Country Stadium.
