Michelin rates Manresa tops in S.F.

A farm-centric menu with an intense focus on seasonal eating has earned San Francisco’s Manresa restaurant top honors in the 2016 Michelin Guide to the city’s best eateries.

Chef David Kinch relies on a partnership with Love Apple Farms to shape much of the restaurant’s menu, which changes daily. Manresa joins four others – Corey Lee’s Benu; Thomas Keller’s The French Laundry; Christopher Kostow’s The Restaurant at Meadowood; and Joshua Skenes’ Saison – with three stars.

Michelin guides, which cover 24 countries, are considered one of the premier ratings of the restaurant world. Based on the experiences of anonymous inspectors, the guides award ratings of one, two or three stars using criteria including quality of ingredients, mastery of technique, how the chef’s personality is expressed in the food, and consistency.

A total of 505 restaurants are included in the 2016 edition of the San Francisco guide; seven of them got two-star ratings and 15 got one-star ratings. San Francisco is one of three American cities that have Michelin guides to their restaurants. The others are Chicago and New York.
