Missing man’s body discovered

No foul play suspected

Authorities discovered the body of a missing man after a brief search Friday morning.

The La Plata County Sheriff’s Office and La Plata County Search & Rescue found Henry “Hank” Haven, 32, in Hermosa Creek near U.S. Highway 550 just before 10 a.m.

“While Hermosa Creek tends to have very little flow at this time of year, recent heavy rains have resulted in spring-like runoff in most area drainages,” sheriff’s office spokesman Dan Bender said. “While there is no indication of foul play, the La Plata County Sheriff’s Office is conducting an investigation and is awaiting a coroner’s report that may be available sometime next week.”

Haven had last been seen about 8 p.m. Monday leaving the gas station at Hermosa on foot. He was wearing a brown wool sweater, dark gray cargo pants, black shoes and possibly a gray-striped cap.

A Native American with short black hair, he was 5 feet 11 inches and weighed 160 pounds. Haven walked with a limp.

Anyone who may have seen someone matching this description in the Hermosa area between Monday and Thursday is asked to call investigator Tom Cowing at 382-7045.
