Moose take revenge against Bayfield, 3-1

Unable to complete a season sweep of 3A/2A Intermountain League rival Alamosa, the Bayfield girls' soccer team went down 3-1 to the Mean Moose Tuesday afternoon inside Wolverine Country Stadium.

After springing an upset out in the San Luis Valley last Friday afternoon, the Wolverines (4-6 overall, 3-3 against the full IML) trailed 1-0 at halftime and 2-0 early in the second half as Alamosa junior standout Katie Parkins converted breakaway chances in the 16th and 47th minutes, respectively.

BHS junior Savannah Kaufmann, who'd netted both Bayfield goals in the previous clash, put an attempt past junior goalie Ashley Ramirez in the 50th to prevent a shutout.

But Ramirez re-composed herself and ultimately secured the victory with several late saves, including back-to-back stops on Kaufmann and sophomore Caibri Schaefer. Those were Bayfield's best two chances for more goals before time expired.

AHS freshman Lily Lavier capped the contest with a 79th-minute penalty kick to Kailee Millard's right.

The Moose improved to 7-2, 6-2 in league, and will next host non-league 3A Rye at 4 p.m. Friday. Bayfield, meanwhile, will next visit Ignacio at 6 p.m. on April 26.

And speaking of IHS, the Bobcats (0-6, 0-6) will at last face first-year team Del Norte (2-6, 1-4) Friday afternoon at 4, then visit Pagosa Springs on the 24th and kick off at 5 p.m.
