Morrissey the right person for treasurer job

The story (Herald, July 12) about falling property-tax revenues underscores how important the competitive election is this year for La Plata County treasurer.

I encourage all voters to do their homework and research both candidates’ qualifications. You will notice Allison Morrissey is the only candidate with an accounting degree, a master’s degree in business and who has spent her working career leading complex financial projects that improve business results.

She is the right person for this job because she also cares deeply about this community. She serves on the board of the Community Foundation with me. She volunteers as the treasurer for Durango Friends of the Arts and prepares tax returns for seniors as an IRS-certified tax preparer. Those of us who work with her know she is dedicated and a delight to work with.

I encourage you to vote for Allison Morrissey as county treasurer in the fall.

Michael Hudson
