Recently, I was lucky enough to visit Durango and was even more fortunate to spend some time hiking up the aptly named Hermosa Creek Trail. During my visit, I also learned about the impressive Hermosa Creek Watershed Protection Act. I want to commend the local folks of Durango for coming together to create and supporting a plan to protect such a spectacular landscape and for doing so collaboratively and inclusively. Access to public lands is why we live in Colorado, and why those of us who live in Denver are often green with envy when we visit places like Durango. I am greatly appreciative of the access to beauty that is literally out your backdoor. Congratulations on the legislation. I hope to see the bill’s sponsors, Sen. Michael Bennet and Rep. Scott Tipton, move this measure quickly through Congress and to the president’s desk for a signature.
