All of the emotions Southern California had been lacking the last few years finally came pouring out on the road, against a rival and in front of a national television audience – sometimes even a bit too much.

Few things looked pretty for the Trojans in Week 2 except for the final score: USC 13, Stanford 10.

A game that featured an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty on USC head coach Steve Sarkisian for standing too close to the field, cornerback Hayes Pullard getting ejected for targeting and athletic director Pat Haden yelling at officials in a weird and wild sideline scene, ended with USC making all the big plays on the field in the closing moments.

The early games in Week 2 of the college football season felt an awful lot like March Madness, filled with upsets, near upsets and wild momentum swings.

Central Michigan had perhaps the biggest upset with a stunning 38-17 rout over Purdue for its second win in three seasons against a Big Ten foe.

Another Big Ten school, Illinois, trailed Western Kentucky in the second half before pulling out an eight-point win, and No. 8 Wisconsin led just 9-3 over Western Illinois at halftime before pulling away in the second half.

No. 19 Nebraska had trouble with McNeese State until Ameer Abdullah late-game heroics for a 31-24 victory. No. 20 Kansas State struggled all day against Iowa State before Jake Waters ran for an 8-yard touchdown with 90 seconds left for a 32-28 victory.
