Neighbors: Hills alive with color for birthdays, anniversaries

The hillsides provide a colorful backdrop for locals’ birthdays and anniversaries this week, as seen here on the north side of Red Mountain Pass in 2011.

It’s a perfect time to go for a mountain drive because the colors are vibrant for the birthdays of Patricia Martens, Mary (Crow) Dunlap, Marilyn Swanson, Richard Nobman, Jonah Michael Unterreiner, Sam Rose, Therese Teiber, Bob Cox, Norma Phillips, Barbara Carman, Chris Calwell, Andrew Selser, Lily Colbert and Bruce Stevens.

Some hot apple cider will hit the spot for the anniversaries of Miles and Holly Newby, Art and Katie Chicklinski-Cahill, Chris and Lynda Berger, Greg and Shirley Drover and Dave and Marty Schank.

•••

Happy golden anniversary to two of my favorite people, Don and Sandra Mapel, who celebrated this summer with a river cruise in Europe.

Check back at durangoherald.com for more Neighbors stories and photos. Neighbors runs in the Sunday print edition of The Durango Herald.

Here’s how to reach me: neighbors@durangoherald.com; phone 375-4584; mail items to the Herald; or drop them off at the front desk. Please include contact names and phone numbers for all items. Follow me on Twitter @Ann_Neighbors.

I am happy to consider photos for Neighbors, but they must be high-quality, high-resolution photos (at least 1 MB of memory) and include no more than three to five people. I need to know who’s who, left to right, and who to credit with the photo. Candid photos are better than posed, and photos should be submitted as JPG or TIF attachments.
