The Style ‘N’ Stones benefit jewelry sale was held for the 12th year in September. Every year, each designer donates at least 30 percent of all sales to the year’s designated charity, which was the Health Coalition of Southwest Colorado in 2016.
They changed the sale up a bit this year, holding it at a private home. Designer Dana Wilson graciously provided the setting. Food was provided by Health Coalition volunteers, and jewelry designer Nancy Macho did double duty and donated the wine for the attendees.
In addition to Macho and Wilson, the designers this year were Pat Lorenzen, Nancy Conrad, Susie Fisher, Sally Short, Carolyn Plested, Jama Crawford and Sally Wingate. Former participants Basia Daney and Marian Pierce weren’t able to attend, although Pierce donated jewelry and handmade paper cranes, which were sold at the check-in table.
The final numbers are in – the group donated $4,230 to the coalition.
Anyone who has suffered a major health crisis knows how difficult it is to cope with medical expenses, sometimes travel expenses for treatment and daily life expenses. The Health Coalition of Southwest Colorado provides help with some of those travel and daily life expenses for Southwest Colorado residents undergoing cancer treatment.
In 12 years, this small group of community-minded jewelry designers has donated more than $46,000 to Durango-area charities. Talk about creating beauty in many ways!

I am happy to consider photos for Neighbors, but they must be high-quality, high-resolution photos (at least 1 MB of memory) and include no more than three to five people. I need to know who’s who, left to right, and who to credit with the photo. Candid photos are better than posed, and photos should be submitted as JPG or TIF attachments.
