For children

Storywalk. Take a stroll through the library garden while reading a picture book set up page by page at stands along the path. This month's book is “Bats at the Library” by Brian Lies.

Wednesdays, 9:30-10:30 a.m.: Storytime. Stories, songs, and a craft. This month, we are reading about friendship.

Oct. 13, 10:30 a.m.: Kindergarten Readiness Workshop. Childhood developmental experts from the Early Childhood Council will have workshops for caregivers of children ages 0-5 to get them ready to thrive when they start school. Families that attend will receive activity packs including books to take home. This month’s workshop focus will be socio-emotional development and play.

Mondays, 3:30-5 p.m.: Gamer’s Club. Table-top gaming, console video games, Roblox, Minecraft, Pokémon Go and even virtual reality. Computers are provided, but gamers can bring their own laptop or Switches. The Gamer Club prime directive is be kind. This program is geared for grades three and up, but younger children are welcome to attend with a caregiver.

Tuesdays, 3:30-5 p.m.: STEAM with Summer. Learn a new skill and earn a badge from our Badge Quest. Collect them all for bragging rights. This month, we’ll be earning these badges: Beaver badge, Astronomy badge, Digger badge and Mad Scientist badge.

Thursdays, 3:30-5 p.m.: After School Art. Make art and play around with different artistic mediums. Get ready to get dirty at this program because nothing is off limits when it comes to making a masterpiece.

All month: Badge Quest: Learn it to earn it. The S.T.E.A.M. Badge Quest is a scout-style program where kids earn badges by attending STEAM programs and completing the challenges in our Badge Quest Packet. To complete the badge quest independently, use our ideas for programming, which will be posted weekly after each STEAM program. See www.prlibrary.org /badge-quest/ for more details.

NOTE: All Gamer Club, STEAM and art participants must register to attend after school programs at the library. Parents and guardians can pick up a registration form at the library or register online at www.prlibrary.org/kids-programs/.

For teens

Wednesdays, 3:30-5:15 p.m.: Teen STEAM. A variety of STEAM projects – think of things like Glow Labs, 3D Pen Art and coding challenges.

Fridays, 3:30-5:15 p.m.: Teen Lounge. Hang out and game each week, plus on the last Friday of each month, we'll test our culinary skills with a fun food program.

For adults

Mondays, 6 p.m.: Classic Movie Mondays. A classic movie on the big screen every Monday night. Hosted by local film expert Dennis Taylor. Check the calendar for the films that will be shown weekly!

Yoga: All you need is a yoga mat and a water bottle. Some yoga tools such as blocks, a blanket and a strap are encouraged. Cost is $10 for a single class; $45 for a 5 pass and $75 for a 10 pass. Checks can be made out to Bayfield Parks and Rec.

Mondays, 9-10 a.m.: Mostly Yin Yoga. Targets the connective tissue; which are the joints, bones,and ligaments. We remain in many of the poses longer than in a traditional yoga class which can be challenging for our body as well as our mind. The class may be slower paced but it gives our mind time to quiet down, our breath to soften and our connective tissue be active. We will experience the balance between movement and stillness. Tools such as blocks and blankets are encouraged for this class.

Wednesdays, 8-9 a.m.: Yoga Flow. Move dynamically from one posture to another. We create a meditative state with the flow and rhythm of our breath and the warming, lengthening and strengthening of our muscles in all the movements of our bodies.

Tuesdays and Thursdays, 8:15-9 a.m.: Full Body Fit. A free HIIT-style workout that uses just body weight and light hand weights. Classes are taught by Tammy Williams, certified fitness instructor. All ages and fitness levels are welcome! Follow @Body & Soul on Facebook for more details. This class is free.

Sundays, 3-4 p.m.: Strength and Alignment. This free class is designed to improve overall strength and realign your body. We will work with weights and also body weight. The class also includes corrective exercises and activities to strengthen your core and increase flexibility and mobility. Bring a yoga mat, a water bottle and friends. All ages and fitness levels are welcome.

Oct. 1, 10 a.m.: Rambling Readers: Ready to get outside? Join our small, friendly, group of “Rambling Readers.” Meet at the gate to Saul’s Creek just off Highway 160 in Bayfield, take a gentle walk and spend an hour discussing our favorite reads or whatever else interests us. Oct. 4, 6 p.m.: Classic Movie Monday. “Gun Fight at the OK Corral” (1957).

Oct. 6, 6 p.m.: Healthy Movement: Hips, Knees and Ankles. Learn what you can do for healthy movement of lower extremities. Renata Clance from Kamoska Pilates will cover topics related to the lower extremities including basic information about correct walking and methods for testing alignment and balance.

Oct. 7, 6 p.m.: Alcohol Ink Class (Part 1). No experience necessary for this colorful art medium. You will go home with a set of four coasters and learn to work with Yupo paper to create a card or a piece of framed art. All supplies are included. $20 materials fee. This is a two part-class. Call 884-2222, ext. 1, or stop by the library to pre-register.

Oct. 11, 6 p.m.: Classic Movie Monday. “Ride Lonesome (1959).”

Oct. 12, 10 a.m.: Card Making at the Pine River Senior Center. Create two handmade cards. Free.

Oct. 28, 6 p.m.: Death Cafe. A time and place where people come to share food, drink tea or coffee and discuss death openly and honestly. The aim is to increase awareness about death in order to help people make the most of their (finite) lives. The event will be facilitated by Lola Montano, a registered nurse who is pursuing her hospice certification and is interested in becoming a death doula.

Oct. 29, 11:30 a.m.: Pine River Senior Center Outreach. Library visits the Pine River Senior Center on the last Friday of every month. Books and DVDs available for check out, delivered to you with an extended loan period (four weeks, rather than the standard one to three weeks).

Southwest La Plata libraries present a new collection of Bookpacks and Launchpads. All items are available for checkout from either library from 3-7 p.m. Monday to Friday. Bookpacks bring together the simplicity of audiobooks and their print versions to deliver a fun and educational read-along experience to children of all ages. Titles include story collections from Frog and Toad, Nate the Great, Harry, the Dirty Dog, Curious George, Caps For Sale and Miss Nelson is Missing, both with additional storybook classics. Juvenile fiction titles include “The Lightning Thief,” “The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe,” “The Dragonet Prophecy,” “Pax, Hoot” and “Tuck Everlasting.”

Launchpads are tablets pre-loaded with content, designed with a simple interface and made to be passed from one set of hands to the next. No download time. No need for Wi-Fi. Access to powerful content is simple as turning on each device — anytime, anywhere. Titles include Imagination Station! Oct.1, 9 a.m.: Book Club. The book of the month is “In Another Time” by Caroline Leech.

Oct. 1, 7:30 p.m.: Night Sky Astronomy Party. The first astronomy night sky viewing party of the season. As fall arrives and the dark sky grows in length, we plan to meet to examine celestial objects with the help of IMS teacher Anil Chopra. There will be a variety of telescopes, including our new Meade LX90 that was donated to the library by Phil Muenier. The group will start at the library and then move to Shoshone Park and set up the equipment as the sky darkens. Bring a chair and some refreshments.

Oct. 11, 11:30 a.m.: Mystery Book Club. Lunch, mystery and discussion. Attendees will need to bring their own lunches this month. The book of the month is “Death on the Nile” by Agatha Christie.

Oct. 14, 5 p.m.: Computer Tech Support Class. Get your questions about computer answered and learn new techniques and tricks about operating a computer. You can also participate in the monthly tech challenge in our IdeaLab.

Oct. 23, 11 a.m.: The Annual Meeting of the Friends. The Friends of the Ignacio Community Library engage in fundraising activities on behalf of the library, provide volunteers to assist the library staff members and perform activities to focus public attention on the library and its services, facilities and needs.

See the Movie! – “I am not a serial killer.” Join us for “dinner and a movie” as the library continues its fall session of Reel Readers with the "I am not a serial killer." In a small Midwestern town, a troubled teen with homicidal tendencies must hunt down and destroy a supernatural killer while keeping his own inner demons at bay.
