One night only for seasonal Steamworks pumpkin firkin

To honor of all of our hardworking local farmers, on Friday, Steamworks Brewing Co. will unveil a limited-release, seasonal firkin beer.

Offered for one evening only, the Pumpkin Firkin is flavored with locally grown organic pumpkins, brown sugar and spices. Brewer Chad Quinn describes the flavor of the cask-conditioned ale as rich, malty and candy-like.

The keg will be tapped at 3 p.m. with 10-ounce draws available for $1 each, while supplies last.

Steamworks’ winter seasonal ale, Spruce Goose, will also be available starting Friday. Flavored with spruce tips harvested from Little Molas Lake, supplies of this beer should last through mid January, said Ken Martin, Steamworks’ director of brewing operations and certified cicerone. Steamworks Brewing Co. is located at 801 East Second Ave.

SASO to hold seventh annual Chefs Collaborative

Sexual Assualt Services of Durango will hold its biggest annual fundraiser, the Collaborative Chef’s Showcase, on Thursday at the Henry Strater Theatre.

Maura Demko, executive director for SASO, describes the event as a special night of fun, where chefs from the best restaurants come together to prepare food under the direction of Carver Brewing Co. Executive Chef Dave Cuntz.

Part of the allure is that the menu is kept secret until the night of the event, when chefs will present and talk about their selections throughout the six-course meal.

Leah Deane, district manager for Republic National Wine Co., will provide information about wine pairings with each course. Beer from local breweries will also be offered. VIP tickets are sold out, but general admission tickets are still available for $125 each. For tickets, call SASO at 259-3074 or email Maura Demko at maura@durangosaso.org.
