A popular place for early Animas City residents to spend their free time was the Elk Horn Club. This business was a restaurant located on the north side of then Second Street, now 32nd Street. Today, the location is directly across 32nd Street from north City Market. The offices of Adaptive Sports Association and the Durango Area Board of Realtors are located on the site. In the 1880s, the club was located mid-block with an alley running behind it leading to the city jail.

Ed Horvat for Animas Museum, edhorvat@animasmuseum.org
