Authorities are looking for a man suspected of sexually assaulting a woman as he walked her home from the bars early Saturday morning.
The victim, 26, left a downtown bar Friday night and decided to walk home by herself, she told police. Two men approached her about walking her home, and they stopped at No Way Jose’s, 1017 Main Ave., said Ray Shupe, spokesman for the Durango Police Department.
The woman and one of the men left the restaurant and walked north on Main Avenue. When the pair turned right on east 19th Street, the man pushed the victim into an alley. He shoved her to the ground, got on top of her, tried to kiss her and put his hands down the front of her pants, Shupe said.
The woman started screaming and said her boyfriend lived in an adjacent house. At that point, the man got off her and started walking north on Main Avenue, Shupe said.
The woman ran home and called police at around 2:26 a.m.
The man is described as skinny, 5 feet 7 inches tall, Caucasian with a dark-haired goatee and in his 20s.
Anyone with information about the suspect is asked to call Detective Sgt. Deck Shaline at 375-4729 or Crime Stoppers at 247-1112.
