The Durango High School girls soccer team took on Montrose looking for an upset, and despite having plenty of chances against the No. 5 Indians on Saturday afternoon, the Demons fell 2-0.
Montrose scored late in the first half just before the stroke of halftime and added a second in the second half to wrap up the win.
Durango dropped to 0-2 in 5A/4A Southwestern League play after it lost 1-0 to Fruita Monument on Friday night.
Statistics were not available.
DHS will travel to Grand Junction next Friday to take on the Tigers at 5:30 p.m.

Girls LacrosseThe Durango High School girls lacrosse team stuck with Summit High School in the first half Saturday at DHS but were unable to keep pace in the second and lost 11-6.
Durango (2-5, 2-3 Mountain League) went down 2-0 early but quickly tied it at 2-2. Summit then came back and scored five out of the next six goals, including one with 0.8 seconds remaining to take a 7-3 lead into halftime.
“We had a good first half other than the ending; that goal with less than a second left was a big momentum booster for them,” said DHS head coach Natalie Mitchell. “In the second half, we struggled in the midfield in picking up ground balls and keeping possession. We went on a few scoring droughts and with all of the possession they had, it was just a tough one to come back from.”
The Tigers (2-3, 0-2 ML) were led by senior Aldyn Hart, who scored four goals and added an assist, while Madi Markel had three goals and two assists.
Kiara Valley scored three goals and added an assist, while Autumn Rymerson had two goals and Gwyn Irwin added one more for DHS. Virginia Herr had nine saves on the afternoon for Durango.
DHS will visit Montrose (0-5, 0-4 ML) at 5 p.m. Tuesday.

Boys LacrosseThe Durango High School boys lacrosse team ran out of gas in the second half against Grand Junction and lost 19-8 on Saturday in Grand Junction.
The Demons (4-3, 0-3 5A/4A Mountain League) were tied 2-2 after the first quarter and were down just 6-4 at halftime, but the second half was too much.
“We did much better for three quarters today, but we just ran out of energy in that fourth quarter,” said DHS head coach John Robinette. “We were a lot better defensively, but they had us beat in the fourth just because they had more numbers than we did. We had chances to get back into it with extra-man opportunities but we couldn’t find the net when we needed to.”
The Demons finished just 1-for-9 on extra-man opportunities, while the defense was stout and went 5-for-6 on penalty clearances.
Cullen Robinette had four goals and two assists on 10 shots on goal, while Corbin Randle had three goals and an assist on seven shots. Evan Berridge, who has been a key part of the Demons’ defense this year, had to exit the game after he blocked a shot but came up hurt.
“We are just going to keep our heads up and we’ll have to get back at it on Monday,” Robinette said. “We’ve have to keep our fitness levels high to finish out those types of games and play for all four quarters.”
DHS will host Montrose (1-4, 0-4 ML) at 4 p.m. Friday.
