Recovery off the course; busy time on the greens

I sit down this week at my computer trying to collect my thoughts and regain my strength. After an unexpected first-ever trip in a Flight for Life helicopter last weekend courtesy of the gall of my liver, I am back to keeping you up on the golf season.

Hillcrest Golf Club

It would be an understatement to say Hillcrest will be full of activity the next two weeks. Starting Monday, the Beginning Junior Program kicks off with clinics through June 8. The Advanced Junior Program will have clinics on Thursdays starting June 22 with either a nine- or 18-hole tournament.

The 2017 edition of the Navajo Trail Open Sponsors Tournament will be June 10 with two separate shotgun starts at 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. Dinner will follow the tournament in the clubhouse. Then the serious business of golf begins June 15-18, as the Navajo Trail Open-First National Bank event kicks off with the pro-am on the 15th followed by the 54-hole Open June 16-18. The proceeds from the NTO benefit the Hillcrest Junior Golf Foundation. Our junior golfers have a big stake in the next two weeks at HGC.

Looking down the road June 24th, we find two tournaments on the calendar with the Hampton Inn-Yellow Ball Challenge at Hillcrest and The Choker Tournament at Dalton Ranch. Make sure your coin has a heads and a tails on it.

Dalton Ranch Golf Club

As you probably realized, the Bank of the San Juans Charity Golf Tournament has been postponed until later this season because of scheduling conflicts, so check with the Dalton Ranch pro shop for the tentative reschedule date.

Dalton Ranch will hold it’s June Couples Tournament on June 4 with a shotgun start at 1 p.m. Check with the pro shop to sign up.

The popular Columbine Classic Duet event, at the Glacier Club and Dalton Ranch courses on June 14-15, is, as we say in the business, full up.
