San Juan Basin Archaeological Society to hold meeting

The San Juan Basin Archaeological Society will present a program at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Center of Southwest Studies at Fort Lewis College.

Andrew Carroll will give a talk called “Throwing the Baby Out With the Bathwater: Infant Mortality at Poggio Civitate, Murlo.”

Poggio Civitate in Italy is well-known for its early monumental buildings and their tiled and decorated roofs. Research has shown class distinctions in the way infant mortality was treated among the non-elite class.

Carroll has excavated for a decade in Italy, working at Roman and Etruscan sites. He recently moved to Durango with his wife, who teaches at FLC.

There will be a social at 6:30 p.m. before the talk. For more information, visit sjbas.org.
