San Juan Basin Public Health emphasizes vaccinations

San Juan Basin Public Health reminds community members that vaccinations are the most effective way to prevent diseases such as measles, hepatitis A, flu and pertussis (whooping cough).

The health department has confirmed local cases of flu and one local case of hepatitis A. Three unvaccinated children visiting Colorado from another state tested positive for measles after traveling to a country with an ongoing measles outbreak. Also, pertussis cases have been reported throughout Colorado in school-aged children.

For more information about the safety of vaccines, hepatitis A, measles, influenza A and B and pertussis, visit www.cdc.gov, see a doctor or call the health department at 247-5702.
