San Juan Basin Public Health reminds the community about food safety during the holiday season to keep family and friends safe.

Do not prepare food for others when sick.Wash hands before handling food and after touching raw meat and/or dirty dishes.Keep hot food hot (over 135 degrees) and cold food cold (below 41 degrees).Ensure food reaches appropriate cooking temperatures.Eggs, pork, whole muscle, steaks and seafood should reach 145 degrees for 15 seconds.Ground or injected meats should reach 155 degrees for 15 seconds.Poultry or any stuffed meat should reach 165 degrees for 15 seconds.Do not keep leftover food for more than seven days.
